Register Your Bike (Because Losing It Would Suck)

Your bike = freedom. It gets you to class, work, coffee, and everywhere in between.
So imagine this: you lock it up, go inside, come back... and it’s gone.
Bikes get stolen all the time. But if yours is registered with your local police? Your chances of getting it back go way up.
Why You Should Register Your Bike:
- It Helps Recover Stolen Bikes - Police actually recover lots of stolen bikes—but most never get returned because they have no idea who they belong to. If your bike’s registered, they can contact you.
- It Proves Ownership - If you ever need to prove the bike is yours (to claim it from impound, report it missing, or even sell it), registration helps.
- It Deters Theft - Some thieves avoid registered bikes—they’re harder to resell and easier to trace.
- It’s Usually Free or Cheap - Most college campuses and cities offer free or very low-cost registration, online or in person.
- It Takes Like 5 Minutes - Seriously. You fill out a form, snap a couple photos, and boom—you’re covered.
How to Register Your Bike:
- Search “[Your city or college] bike registration”
- Fill out the form (usually includes your name, contact info, bike make/model/color, and serial number)
- Submit it online or in person at the local police station or campus security office
- Get a registration sticker to put on your bike frame (optional, but helpful)
Pro Tip: Your bike’s serial number is usually engraved on the underside of the frame near the pedals.
Any Reason Not to Register?
Nope. Unless you’re riding a stolen bike (don’t), there’s no downside.
It doesn’t cost you anything. It doesn’t let the cops track your movements.
It just makes it easier to get your bike back if it disappears.
